Time to change now jaywalkers.

Its just Thursday. Mid of the week and nothing too interesting either. Odd office hrs has kind of drained away a lot of energy out of my body making it lethargic. Got up early somehow. Only interesting activity I could think of was to update myself with tweets received overnight. Twitter has become my new found interest. I find it more interactive and quick. We can share our thoughts to the exact person just as fast as it comes to ones mind. Thanks to a friend who asked me to get on twitter. So I checked all the tweets and done. What next. Damn this boredom.
Suddenly the door bell rings. Oh. It must be the newspaper seller. I rushed to open the door to talk to him on some query. By the time I reached to the door, he was far out of my reach. Why are these vendors so fast. As if skating around and not walking. Tomorrow I will be faster than you mister. You bet.!! Collected the newspaper from the threshold. So what news we have today. Digital India launched by our government must be all through just as on twitter. What else. Was just guessing when I got a glimpse of DRIVE AGAINST JAYWALKING.
Is this true. Traffic Police actually thought this unpleasant sight of unruly masses scattered all across the roads something worth acting upon and controlling? Could not believe my eyes. I quickly looked at the images provided. Kolkata police in their age old white uniform getting hold of jay walkers across big main crossings of the city. This is interesting. I would always wonder that traffic rules are for vehicles agreed but what about the reckless Johnie walkers who are ambling across the main roads causing trouble to the vehicle drivers. People never follow traffic rules that signals them when to stop and when to cross roads. Mostly not following the zebra crossing and its the onus of the vehicle drivers or the traffic police and scout boys to see to it that these impatient fools are safe. So now some steps traffic police will take to educate these extra ordinary citizens. Even a 100 rs fine. Awesome.
It would be interesting to see how long these weekly drives continue. How they react when traffic police inform them about their on road responsibilities. Will they get annoyed? be docile? Listen? Will they change? How would people react to the fines charged. Show clout? anger? Protest? Awaiting another article on how this reform will be received by the people of Kolkata. Hope we bring in lot of technical reforms as well with the onset of Digital India. Till then, happy to see this much needed reform being pushed in the parts of this heavily crowded improperly organized city.

  4. In some countries traffic rule violatiors have to do community service for certain hours based upon extent of offence. I wish we we implement some rule like that.
